Get to know Hidden Bookshelves! If you’re looking for a new blog to follow, look no further. These two awesome ladies are here to tell you about their love of books.
What is your blog about?
We are a bookish blog, we do all things books. We have done book reviews, spotlights, author interviews, and bookish lists. Both Fallon and Meghan have different tastes in books so everyone is bound to find something they like. Basically, if you want anything that falls between a book review, and book opinions, it’s probably somewhere on here.
Why did you start a blog?
We are two book fanatics and wanted to find people who also enjoy books. As we’re both writers stuck in a retail setting, we needed an outlet for our creativity, and we figured, what do we know more about than books? So we took a deep breath, bought a domain, and hoped someone, somewhere wanted to hear what we had to say. We were also hoping that it would calm down our book buying, but then pay day book dates became a thing. So, that’s one goal we haven’t achieved.
What are you most excited about in the future?
We have teamed up with Nancy who owns Seaside books here on PEI to learn about running a bookstore! We are going to be working there a couple hours each week to learn more and we are so excited! We’re also loving the mini reading challenges we’re starting to accompany our first annual challenge. Mostly because it’s more excuses to read and buy books.
What are your goals for 2020?
Between the two of us we hope to read 200 books, which will be tracked on Goodreads. We are hoping to meet more people who enjoy books and be able to connect with them more, not only on social media, but also in our own community. We’re hoping to get more subscribers and connect with more people too, with our reading challenges.
What advice do you have for people who want to start a blog?
Just Do It! Fallon has been wanting to start a blog for a long time before actually doing so and we are both so happy now and it allows our creative minds to flow. Also invest in a domain. Some people don’t think it is worth it, but it totally is.
Social Media is a big thing for gaining views/subscribers. Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook. Use it All and create a facebook page and/or group for the blog.
Remember to have fun and write what you want to write. People are coming to your blog to hear your voice and your opinions. Use your platform!
Who are your favorite authors?
Fallon loves James Patterson, Michael Grant, Sarah J. Maas and has recently fallen in love with Sophie Kinsella. Meg is into J.R.R Tolkien, J.K. Rowling, Alison Weir, Edgar Allen Poe, and Jane Austen.
What books are you excited to read this year?
Fallon doesn’t really have a certain amount of books she is excited for and unfortunately if she was to name all the books that she wants to buy we would be here all evening. Meg has a mountain she’s currently buried under, but off the top of her head, one she’s looking forward to is the prequel to the Hunger Games.
This is a great interview! So interesting to read.
