The Book
The Belles was released in 2018. The sequel, The Everlasting Rose, came out in March 2019. There may or may not be a third book in this series.
Why did we pick this book?
We’ve partnered with Bards Alley, an awesome indie bookstore, to co-host a YA book club every month. This was the first book we decided on because it’s perfect for a discussion. A book-seller at the store raved about this dystopian fantasy.
Are you in the D.C. metro area? Join us on Sunday, March 8 at 4:00 p.m. to discuss. If you haven’t read the book, no problem! More information about location can be found here!
What is this book about?
Camille Beauregard is a Belle. Belles are elite because they control beauty in the land of Orleans. Everyone here is born with gray skin and red eyes. Only Belles can change their appearance. Camille spent years working to become the favorite. But once she ends up in the royal palace, the politics of the kingdom changes her perception on everything. Her life is not about the carefree beautification of the royals, it’s dangerous. Camille must choose to risk her own life or maintain the status quo…but neither choice is easy when she has to consider the consequences of her actions. Desperate to save Orleans from a tyrant and her sisters from a more horrible future, Camille takes the fate of the land in her own hands.
What other YA books has the author written?
Clayton wrote the Tiny Pretty Things series and a short story in Meet Cute: Some People Are Destined to Meet.
This one will surely provoke interesting discussions! Have fun 🙂

The Belles sounds like an interesting book, especially when appearances are different than what we are used to. Thanks for sharing this book!
