Almost everyone in this small Connecticut town believes that Sal Singh murdered Andie Bell. Five years later, Pippa Fitz-Amobi doesn’t think that’s the truth. After all, it seemed too easy for the police to close the case without a proper investigation.
For her senior year project, Pip plans to reopen the case in hopes of proving Sal innocent. Sal was always so nice to Pip and she can’t imagine him hurting anyone.
Quickly, she involves Ravi, Sal’s younger brother in the investigation. He’s been waiting five years to clear his brother’s name. So, where to start?
First, they start with Sal’s best friends. Then, his teachers. Finally, they find anyone who could provide information on Andie’s life and if she would ever run away.
But Pip starts getting threatening messages. They come by both paper and text. If she doesn’t give up, she could be in danger. Determined to figure this out despite the risks, Pip finds out that the truth could be more upsetting than she ever thought. How many people could be in on this secret and what would they do to make sure it never comes to life?
Wow, what a fun murder mystery. We heard nothing but good things about this book and it lived up to expectations. Pip is super tenacious and has a strong moral compass. She’s fiercely loyal to her friends and even to Sal.
Our favorite parts were reading her reports. We loved how Jackson presented all the evidence Pip had in this way. It helped us keep up with the fast paced book. Since the book had a lot people to be suspicious over, we needed that list of suspects.
The mystery aspect kept us guessing until the very end and is revealed in two parts. Without spoiling anything, Andie Bell’s murder was more complex than we ever imagined. This girl had a lot secrets to uncover!
We also like how Jackson depicted Andie. When Pip investigates she realizes Andie was neither good nor bad, but some complex in between. She wasn’t the perfect girl that everyone described though and kept a lot of skeletons in her closet.
Ravi was another highlight for us! He’s super sweet, smart and protective. He shows that he’ll do anything to prefect both Pip and his family. The budding romance between the two never fully happened the way we hoped. But, we guess that’s what book 2 is for. Ravi also helped tackle racial stereotypes. It made him sad that people jumped to conclusions about Sal because of his Indian heritage. Jackson strongly condemned racial prejudice.
Jackson plans for this to be a four book series. After this, we can’t wait for Good Girl, Bad Blood. We’re curious how Pip will return to her detective ways and if Ravi will be along for the ride.
Overall, pick up A Good Girls Guide to Murder if you’re in need of a complex mystery!

Oh man, I love these stories when a character goes out to prove that a crime actually happened. Makes the police look so bad with not doing their jobs right. It is great that the character had a great development. Thanks for sharing!
