Summer Book Tag

Summer always has us searching for books set during this season. Who doesn’t love a cute beach read? We searched through our Goodreads and found all of our YA books that have summer in the title. Tell us if you’ve read any of these! Do you have a favorite book about summer?

1. The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

The summer before Belly’s junior year in high school was different. While she spent it at Cousin’s Beach with her family and the Fisher’s, the two guys she knows better than anyone start treating her differently. While she’s been in love with Conrad forever, he isn’t the only one who has noticed that Belly grew up in the past year. The Summer I Turned Pretty is the first book we think about when it’s summer. It’s the perfect YA beach romance to cuddle up with.

2. The Summer of Us by Cecilia Vinesse 

Two weeks. Your best friends. Multiple countries. What could possibly go wrong? Aubrey and Rae can’t wait to spend the first two weeks of summer backpacking across Europe. They’ve been dreaming of this trip for ages. Yet, things are bound to go wrong when five teenagers with unresolved relationship issues spend all their time together. At least they get to figure it all out while traveling through Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, Florence, Rome and Barcelona!

3. One Paris Summer by Denise Grover Swank

An entire summer in Paris? It sounds like a dream come true. But for Sophie Brooks, it’s her worst nightmare. Maybe meeting a cute French guy will change her perceptions of the City of Light…and the City of Love. One Paris Summer is super cute and we love the Parisian setting.

4. Summer Constellations by Alisha Sevigny

Julia had a tough year with her brother’s medical condition. But the summer was supposed to make everything better. First, her best friend goes to Japan for two months. Then, the guy she thought she was seeing shows up with another girlfriend. To top it all off, her mom is thinking about selling their lakefront campsite that’s been in the family for decades. With an unlikely ally, Julia might be able to save her family’s lake and her summer.

5. It’s Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han

In the second installment of Han’s best-selling series, everything has changed for Belly. After a tragic loss and the idea of never returning to Cousin’s Beach, Belly has no idea what to do next. With the help of Conrad and Jeremiah, they might be able to save this summer after all. 

6. Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

Taylor Edwards is spend the summer with her family in a tiny lake house. She never thought she would have to go back to the summer home and face the people from her past. Yet, maybe Taylor’s summer is the second chance she always needed. Waring: This is not just a cute contemporary! It has some really sad aspects, so only go in if you’re ready for an emotional rollercoaster.

7. Summer and the City by Candace Bushnell 

Carrie Bradshaw just graduated high school. She’s finally in New York City and gets to take a real writing class at the New School. There’s glamour, parties, fashion and romance. She’s 18 and the world is hers for the taking. But, making it in the city that never sleeps is proving to be more difficult than Carrie thought. Follow the young Carrie Bradshaw as she faces Manhattan for the first time in the 1980s.

8. Two Summers by Aimee Friedman

Two Summers refers to the two different paths that Summer Everett could take. One path has her heading to the South of France to spend time with her estranged father. The other she spends at home taking a photography class at the local college. Both have romance, heartbreak and adventure. So, which path should Summer choose? 

9. We’ll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han

The last installment is set two years after It’s Not Summer Without You. Belly finished her freshman year in college and all feels right in the world. Until she finds out her boyfriend Jeremiah cheated on her. He’ll do anything to win Belly back…even propose. But, they’re only 19 and 20. Plus, Belly still has unresolved feelings for Conrad. 

10. My Summer of Love and Misfortune by Lindsay Wong 

Iris Wang has been sent to spend her summer in Beijing, China. Even though she’s annoyed, she thinks it’s a good opportunity to hit the reset button and have some fun. She doesn’t expect to meet Frank, a hot language tutor and get drawn to Beijing’s elite.  

11. A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger 

Known for The DUFF, Keplinger has some other great books. A Midsummer’s Nightmare follows Whitney Johnson spending the summer with her divorced dad…and his fiancée…and her son. The worst part: She may have hooked up with her soon to be step brother. Whitney doesn’t fit in with her dad’s new rich crowd, so she acts out. But, she doesn’t notice all the good things in her life. Whitley is a complex character if you’re looking for a summer read that isn’t light.
