Review: The Bad Boy and The Tomboy by Nicole Nwosu

Macy Anderson’s life revolves around school and soccer. She has a great group of friends and a close relationship with her dad and younger brother.

Everything seems great about senior year until Macy meets Sam Cahill. Sam’s egotistical and won’t leave Macy alone!

For some reason, Sam and his best friend Caleb decide to put themselves into Macy’s friend group, meaning that they are everywhere! To make it worse, Sam happens to be Cedric Cahill’s cousin, Macy’s crush.

All she wants to do is get a soccer scholarship and enjoy the rest of her year with friends. When Cedric asks her out, things get more complicated with Sam, who despite his attitude, wants to be in Macy’s life. Will these three be able to work things out or is it a love triangle in the making?

Okay, we’ll get this out of the way, the writing in this book wasn’t that great. It didn’t flow well and some of the scenes moved around awkwardly. While the writing improved throughout the story, sometimes it could be hard to follow.

But this doesn’t mean we didn’t enjoy the book. We had fun with The Bad Boy and the Tomboy and genuinely liked Macy’s character. With being one of the guys, Macy is tired of being pigeonholed as a tomboy. She’s more than that.

We also liked her relationship with her family. She had a super close relationship with her younger brother, who ended up giving Macy great life advice.

To top it all off, the romance had us swooning. Team Sam all the way. Cedric was a bit boring. But with Sam, he was witty and he also felt tired of being a stereotype. Plus, he’s British!

One aspect that annoyed us was the amount of characters. It’s great that Macy has so many friends, but there were too many to keep track of. Plus, only her two best friends, Andrew and Jasmine, had personalities. The others basically blended together.

Overall, this book is a quick read and super adorable. If you want something light with a cute romance, pick this one up when it releases on October 13.

Review: Entwined by AJ Rosen

Avery always knew that when she turned 18 she would go to the Gathering to try to find her soulmate. The Greek Gods and Goddesses have it all planned. But, Avery never wanted a soulmate. Instead, she plans to escape. She’s tired of following orders and her parents treating her like crap.

However, she met a guy and he wants to meet her at the Gathering to see if they’re destined to be together. Through a series of twists, that doesn’t happen and Avery is stuck. With her best friend’s cousin, Avery devises a plan to ruin the Gathering and leave their world behind.

It’s easier said than done. With some dark family secrets and people destined to make sure Avery fails, she may have no choice but to give up.

We cannot think of a better way to describe this book than weird. Honestly, the book was so confusing. Avery had no idea what she wanted and her character fell a bit flat. Also, the romance didn’t do it for us. There was a bit of a love triangle, but honestly, she didn’t have much chemistry with either of them. Plus, at only 18, the fact that they were 22 and 24 seemed a bit odd.

The book didn’t flow well either. Scenes jumbled together and half the time we wondered, wait, what’s actually happening? The prologue laid out the background nicely, but by Chapter 1 we were already lost.

The part we did like was the fact it was based on Greek mythology. Also, the ending wasn’t too bad. While a tad predictable, it did set up for a second book.

Overall, this book just wasn’t for us.
