The Book

The Inheritance Games was released on September 1, 2020. The paperback came out in July 2021.

Why did we pick this book?

We’ve been so excited to read The Inheritance Games since last year. It’s pitched a YA version of the movie Knives Out and we love a good mystery. Also, we really enjoyed The Naturals series by Barnes and can’t wait to see if her latest series lives up to the hype. We’re reading book 1 just in time. Book 2, The Hawthorne Legacy, releases in September! Email us at imallbookedupya@gmail.com to join us Sunday August 22nd for book club!

What is this book about?

All Avery Grambs wants is to get out of Connecticut by going to college and getting a scholarship. She never expected for mysterious Texas billionaire Tobias Hawthorne to leave his entire fortune to her. Neither can the rest of his family, who want to know why someone they’ve never heard of is now moving into their house.

To make things worse, Avery has to live with the family in the creepy puzzle-like mansion for an entire year. That includes being around the four magnetic Hawthorne grandsons. While Avery wants answers and is determined to solve Tobias’s ultimate riddle, she doesn’t know who she can trust. And with the dichotomy between her heart and head, life is about to get interesting.

What other YA books has the author written?

Barnes wrote The Naturals, Raised by Wolves, The Fixer and Perfect Cover.

  1. I’ve heard nothing but excellent reviews on this book! It sounds incredible to me and I freaking loved Knives Out. If I hadn’t already planned my TBR for the month, I’d totally join. However, depending on how quickly I get through my planned list, I might be able to squeeze this in towards the end of the month. We’ll see!
