Recently we’ve enjoyed seeing other book bloggers participate in the birthstone book covers every month. Seeing those posts made us wonder if there was a birthstone book tag out there. Well, we found it!
This book tag was created by Jay G.
Let us know your birthstones in the comments and if you’ve read any of our picks!
This blog post is all about the Birthstone Book Tag.
January: Garnet
Associated with warding off negative forces and dark energies: Name a book with the darkest/evilest character you can think of.

Lionel Acrux is definitely the most evil character that came to mind. He’s the main villain in the Zodiac Academy series and has done some pretty terrible things without remorse.
His goal is to do whatever it takes to maintain power, which means getting rid of people who oppose him and setting up a hierarchical society. Pretty much everyone hates Lionel in this series, even the people who are loyal to him because of his power.
February: Amethyst
Purple is associated with royalty: Name a book with regal qualities… You can base this off of characters or choose the King of all books.

Our first thought when we saw the word royalty was The American Royals series. The series asks readers to imagine what the United States would be like as a monarchy, meaning that George Washington became king instead of president. American Royals is a unique take on the alternate history genre.
March: Aquamarine
Washed out: Name a ‘wishy-washy’ character, a character who is not strong or a follower.

We came up with Adam Conant, the main love interest in The Secret Circle series. It’s no secret that we love this series, but we prefer the main character, Cassie Blake, with Nick Armstrong. While she chooses Adam, we never though they made a good couple.
Adam is a wishy-washy character because he doesn’t stand up for Cassie enough. In fact, sometimes he even takes the side of his ex-girlfriend. When comparing Nick and Adam, Nick is clearly the better guy.
April: Diamond
A diamond in the rough: Name a book that you loved but is not well known.

The Westcott High series is full of drama, mystery and intrigue. But not that many people know about this indie series. Currently, there are three books out and we’re waiting for a forth. Do yourself a favor and look up Sarah Mello on Goodreads. You won’t want to skip her books.
May: Emerald
Said to balance energy: Name two characters who balance each other well.

The Infernal Devices came to mind right away and how well Jem Carstairs and Will Herondale balance each other. The two best friends are polar opposites at times, but that only seems to make their friendship stronger. Will is the wild, rebellious and witty one, where Jem is known for being calm, pragmatic and thoughtful.
Even with their differences, it didn’t stop Tessa Gray from falling for them both. We have to say it’s our favorite love triangle ever.
June: Pearl
Associated with loyalty: Name a character who is loyal to the end.

Braden Lewis, the main love interest in On the Fence, is very loyal to his friends. Braden has had a crush on Charlie Reynolds, the younger sister of his best friend, for a long time. Finally, this summer is when he’s going to make a move.
It took Charlie a while to figure out what she wanted. But no matter what, Braden was always there for her. Braden is definitely one of our favorite book boyfriends.
July: Ruby
Blood red: Name a book that made your blood boil, one that made you angry.

Maybe This Time made us so angry because we usually love West’s books, but barely finished this one. Sophie Evans was one of the most annoying characters ever. Seriously, she was extremely judgemental and wanted to go into the fashion industry, despite not knowing anything about the subject. We thought that her love interest could do much better.
August: Peridot
Pale green (it pales in comparison to other gems): Name a supporting character who you like better than the main character.

While Jace Garrett is the main character in the book My Life Next Door, he’s a supporting character in The Boy Most Likely To. While we enjoyed The Boy Most Likely To and think that Tim Mason is an interesting character, we still prefer Jace Garret. He’s an amazing book boyfriend.
September: Sapphire
Blue like the ocean which is calming: Name a book that had a calming effect on you.

Wanderlost is a quick read which always puts us in a good mood. It’s funny and about an incredible adventure. If we need to relax and just enjoy a good read one day, we know we could pick up this book and enjoy it just as much as the first time we read it.
October: Opal
Iridescent: Name an iridescent book, this can be a book with a beautiful cover or you can base it off of a character.

Chain of Gold has one of our favorite book covers ever. The way Cordelia’s red hair is portrayed as leaves is beautiful. Everything about this cover gets the reader excited to pick up this book, which is incredible.
November: Topaz
Associated with resilience: Name a book with a character who rises to the top in a time of adversity.

How Moon Fuentez Fell in Love with the Universe is an emotional read. Moon’s mom is emotionally abusive and her sister Star treats her horribly. The story is all about Moon finding herself, falling in love and standing up to all the people who hurt her.
Moon faced a lot of adversity along the way, so we enjoyed watching her gain confidence and start living for herself.
December: Blue Zircon
Associated with friendship: Name a book with a friendship you want to be apart of.

The Ivy series has one of our favorite friend groups ever. Callie Andrews starts at Harvard and has no idea what to expect. Quickly, she and her roommates and the guys across the hall become a friend group. There’s definitely drama, but also some hilarious and crazy moments.
After reading the series, the reader feels like they know the characters so well, which is something that we loved. It’s a series we can go back to again and again simply because the characters are so great.
I was born in September. I love that the book is Wanderlust! I feel like I can relate to it. I definitely need to read this. Thanks for sharing!
