1. When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer?

Soooo….funny story. I never wanted to be a writer. I’m a science nerd at heart and always knew I would work in the health care industry (I own a chiropractic practice with my husband where I specialize in pregnancy and pediatric care). But I’ve always been a creative person and a daydreamer, and it wasn’t until I got back into reading after eight years of college and grad school that I started to remember how much I loved to use my imagination.

1. When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer?

I knew when I was in elementary school I wanted to be a writer. When I discovered Nancy Drew, I was so obsessed that I began writing my own terrible knock-off novels. I never quite outgrew the habit, because I still write mysteries.

1. When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve always loved creating thing—crafts, stories, songs, artwork, interior design, and clothing. I was an avid reader but didn’t decide to write until I had a story that kept invading my dreams. I needed to know the rest of their story, which led me to write my first book, That Boy.

1. When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer?

Growing up, I was a voracious reader who constantly had a book in my hand. Spelling and reading came naturally to me in school, and I always enjoyed writing assignments. Lit was always my favorite subject.

So how didn’t I know? Why did it never occur to me? Pick up a pen, past Lynn! It wasn’t until after I was married and had a baby that my sister said, “I saw an author on Oprah. You read all the time – maybe you should write a book.”

It was an absurd statement, but I actually started writing my first (awful) book that very week. I guess I owe Oprah Winfrey a huge thank you!

1. When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer?

Unlike a lot of writers, I haven’t been on this path since childhood. Reading has always been pretty much my favorite thing, but it wasn’t until I worked at a bookstore doing author events that I thought about being on the other side. Until then I’d thought of authors as having special training, or special connections, or just being something that I wasn’t–but when I met authors as they came through the store, I realized they were just normal, everyday people, and I started to wonder whether I could write a book, too. Then I had an idea for a book (see the next question!) and the rest is history.
