Review: Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This book review is part of our then and now series, where we revisit books that we enjoyed in the past.

Summary

Samantha Franco is walking on the side of the road with no memory. Seriously, she has no idea who she is and how she ended up getting attacked. The police bring her to the hospital, where she is diagnosed with amnesia. Nothing helps restore her memories: not her parents, her brother or her boyfriend Del.

Things get worse when Sam starts learning about the night she went missing. Apparently, Sam was with her best friend Cassie Winchester, who is still missing. The more Sam learns about her previous life, her friendship with Cassie and the way she terrorized people, the more she wants to forget her former persona.

Review: Nantucket Summer by Leila Howland

This book review is part of our then and now series, where we revisit books that we enjoyed in the past.

Nantucket Summer is a collection, which includes Nantucket Blue and Nantucket Red, by Leila Howland. We first read this duology in the summer of 2017 and haven’t read it since. We were in the mood for a cute romance set near the beach, thus we chose a collection set on Nantucket.

Then and Now: The Selection by Kiera Cass

With the recent updates about Netflix’s movie adaption, we knew we had to reread The Selection and feature it on the blog. It’s been many years since we read the original trilogy…the spinoff books about Eadlyn don’t count. As one of our favorite YA series, we couldn’t wait to revisit the world that can be described as The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games

Review: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Amazon.com: City of Bones (Mortal Instruments) (9781416914280): Clare, Cassandra: Books

This book review is part of our then and now series, where we revisit books that we enjoyed in the past.

City of Bones is the first book in Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series. It was also her first published book and the introduction to the Shadowhunter world. Clare is now one of the best known YA authors!

Christy and Clare first read this series years ago. We cannot remember the exact year, but it has been a while since we were introduced to this urban fantasy series.

Clary Fray’s life was normal. She lived in Brooklyn with her mom and spent most of time with her best friend Simon Lewis. One night Clary and Simon go to an all ages night at the Pandemonium club. Suddenly, Clary sees three teenagers dressed in black with strange markings all over their bodies. She follows them and sees them try to kill someone. Only, nobody else can see them.

The tall blonde guy, Jace, seemed surprised that Clary could see him and informed her that the guy he’s trying to kill is really a demon.

Then and Now: Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier

Ruby Red (The Ruby Red Trilogy (1)): Gier, Kerstin, Bell, Anthea: 9780312551513: Amazon.com: Books

Ruby Red is the first installment in the three-book Ruby Red series by German author, Kerstin Gier. The series was such a success in Germany that it was immediately translated to English, becoming an international hit in the mid-2000’s. Fun fact: there was also a German movie adaption! We’ve been meaning to get our hands on it (with English dubbing or subtitles). If you’ve read the series or seen the movie, let us know down below.

Claire first read the series in high school circa 2013 and Christy read them around then too! We were immediately intrigued by the time travel concept. The series follows British teen, Gwyneth, who (unexpectedly) has the gene for time travel.
