Waverly sticks out at her prestigious Manhattan school, Webber Academy. She’s from Queens, low-income, autistic and queer, so most of the time she feels out of place at school.

To make extra money, Waverly tutors the rich kids at her school, including the beautiful and popular Caroline. One day when Waverly is at Caroline’s house, Caroline gives Waverly an expensive gown and accessories. The reason: Caroline doesn’t feel like going to the Masquerade Ball, the dean’s annual fundraising event.

Review: They’re Watching You by Chelsea Ichaso

It’s been two weeks since Polly St. James went missing. But Maren Montgomery is the only one that cares. You see, Polly left a note on her dorm room desk stating that she ran away and that she needed some alone time because the pressure of attending an elite academy was getting to her. The letter was written in Polly’s handwriting and she had a history of running away.

But Maren doesn’t believe the story. Something feels off about Polly’s disappearance, especially since the day she went missing, she was supposed to meet Maren and confess something. Since Polly’s parents, the school administration and the police have given up on finding Polly, Maren is ready to launch her own investigation.

The Secret History released in 1992, but it’s been popular recently. We stumbled upon this book online, which has high praise and a dedicated following. In fact, with the dark academia trend, The Secret History has become an important text. People are enthralled by the New England college setting, the group of classics students and the dark murder mystery plot.
