Review: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Amazon.com: City of Bones (Mortal Instruments) (9781416914280): Clare, Cassandra: Books

This book review is part of our then and now series, where we revisit books that we enjoyed in the past.

City of Bones is the first book in Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series. It was also her first published book and the introduction to the Shadowhunter world. Clare is now one of the best known YA authors!

Christy and Clare first read this series years ago. We cannot remember the exact year, but it has been a while since we were introduced to this urban fantasy series.

Clary Fray’s life was normal. She lived in Brooklyn with her mom and spent most of time with her best friend Simon Lewis. One night Clary and Simon go to an all ages night at the Pandemonium club. Suddenly, Clary sees three teenagers dressed in black with strange markings all over their bodies. She follows them and sees them try to kill someone. Only, nobody else can see them.

The tall blonde guy, Jace, seemed surprised that Clary could see him and informed her that the guy he’s trying to kill is really a demon.

The second book in The Eldest Curses trilogy focuses on Alec Lightwood and Magnus Bane. The first book, The Red Scrolls of Magic, took place in between City of Glass and City of Fallen Angels when Alec and Magnus went on vacation following the war with Valentine.

The Lost Book of the White is set in 2010, after City of Heavenly Fire. Alec and Magnus are settling into their Brooklyn apartment and getting used to being parents to Max, a Warlock toddler. It’s been awhile since they had seen Shinyun Jung, the dangerous warlock who ruined their European vacation by trying to summon a demon.

It has everything: history, culture, shopping and the best food! If you’re dreaming of Paris, read these awesome books and daydream of your next adventure. Claire studied abroad there and followed Christy’s Paris guide. Though her heart will always lie with London, she may need to reevaluate her list and make it a tie 😉

Which Shadowhunter Chronicles Character Are You Based on Your Myers-Briggs?

We love all the Shadowhunter books! In fact, Cassandra Clare is one of our favorite authors. We decided to share which Myers-Briggs matches the character from The Infernal Devices, The Mortal Instruments and The Dark Artifices. Tell us your Myers-Briggs in the comments and if you relate to the character who matches you! We’re an ENTJ and an INFJ.

Rally the Readers: Review: Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

ENFJ: The Protagonist

Will Herondale fits the ENFJ personality description. ENFJs are known for being strong leaders, charismatic, passionate and intense. They also take their relationships very seriously and want long-term commitment. Just like Will with Tessa!

INFJ: The Advocate

Jem Carstairs embodies the characteristics of the INFJ. INFJs are sensitive, compassionate and always want to do what’s right. They’re also known for their creativity, just like Jem and his love of music.
