It’s been two weeks since Polly St. James went missing. But Maren Montgomery is the only one that cares. You see, Polly left a note on her dorm room desk stating that she ran away and that she needed some alone time because the pressure of attending an elite academy was getting to her. The letter was written in Polly’s handwriting and she had a history of running away.

But Maren doesn’t believe the story. Something feels off about Polly’s disappearance, especially since the day she went missing, she was supposed to meet Maren and confess something. Since Polly’s parents, the school administration and the police have given up on finding Polly, Maren is ready to launch her own investigation.

Review: The Counselors by Jessica Goodman

Goldie Easton can’t wait to spend her summer as a counselor at Camp Alpine Lake in Vermont. Every year since she was eight, Goldie and her two best friends Ava Cantor and Imogen spend two months together at elite summer destination. While Ava and Imogen are part of the elite clientele of Stu and Mellie, owners of Camp Alpine Lake, Goldie gets to attend/work there because her parents are camp employees. Goldie is a townie, living in Roxwood, Vermont, the town a few miles away.

It’s been a tough year for Goldie without her friends. Goldie had legal trouble and won’t be going to college in the fall. She just wants to forget and enjoy her summer, until her ex-boyfriend Heller McConnell winds up dead in the camp’s lake.

Beauty may not be so bad this time around: Josie’s crazy grandma, Deirdre, has moved to Nepal for a one-year tour with the Peace Corps, and Josie plans on snagging a summer internship at Beauty’s premier magazine to boost her photography resume. The internship is Josie’s one-way ticket out of town before her grandma comes home and instigates World War III between the Saint-Martin women.
