The Complete Guide to the Pretty Little Liars Series by Sara Shepard

Pretty Little Liars is one of the most popular (and longest) YA book series. Sara Shepard’s book series even spurred multiple TV shows, including one that premiered last summer: Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.

If you’re someone who is familiar with the TV shows, but not the book series, we’ve created this ultimate guide so you can learn about all of the books. The series consists of 16 books, 18 if you also factor in the two companion novels. If you want to know the difference between the book series and the original television show that premiered in 2010, check out: Book vs TV Show: Pretty Little Liars.

We also included a character guide in this post. While we didn’t include all of the characters in the books, we highlighted the ones that play a major role in the entire series.

Warning: Spoilers if you haven’t read the Pretty Little Liars series.

In need of a YA series to binge? We have some awesome recommendations for series to read through immediately. Whether you want something cute and fluffy for summer, or a dark thriller for autumn, we have something for everyone.

1. Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

Pretty Little Liars became a cult classic when the TV show released in 2010. But, we think the books are much better. Three years after Alison DeLaurentis disappears, former friends Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily start receiving mysterious text messages from someone named A. Pretty Little Liars is a perfect binge series because there are 16 books and two companion novels. Just get ready, the YA series is full of thrills and is even darker than the show.

Book Review: The Mortal Instruments – Confessions of a Book Geek

For the most part, we usually stick with trilogies for series. However, it depends. A few of our favorite series are 4+ books, including The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare and Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard. As long as we still like the story, we’ll keep reading.

Book vs TV Show: Pretty Little Liars

Amazon.com: Pretty Little Liars eBook: Shepard, Sara: Kindle Store

Warning: Spoilers if you haven’t read the book series or watched the TV show.

The year is 2010. The two of us sat on a bed with ABC Family turned on, eagerly waiting for the premiere of Pretty Little Liars. We’d seen the show previews for weeks and couldn’t wait to watch this teen thriller. At the time, we hadn’t read the books.

The first book came out in 2006 and the last one released 2014. There are 18 books total, 16 are part of the regular series and two are companions.

The TV show lasted for seven seasons, from 2010-2017. We loved the first few seasons, but as time went on, it got more and more ridiculous. Eventually, we had to read the source material to see the differences.
