April thinks her life is over when her dad and step mom announce that in less than two weeks they’re moving from their cute Connecticut town to Ohio. Desperate to stay with her boyfriend Noah and her best friends Vi and Marissa, April comes up with a plan. Vi’s mom is in a touring company for Mary Poppins and won’t be home for months. But April’s parents don’t need to know that. They agree to let April live with Vi and Vi’s mom for the rest of the school year, thinking April has strong adult supervision.

Review: This May End Badly by Samantha Markum

Doe Saltpeter loves The Weston School more than anything. She and her friends have spent the past three years at war with Winfield Academy, the all-boys school in the same town.

But when senior year starts, Doe and her friends learn that The West School and Winfield Academy plan to merge next year, ruining her favorite place in the world. Doe won’t stand for this, especially since Nathaniel Wellborn III’s (Three’s) family is the one behind it. Of course it would come back to her arch nemesis. Three’s wealthy family can do whatever they want, meaning Doe has to go to extreme measures to change the course of history.

Our Favorite YA Books of 2021

It’s almost the end of the year, which means it’s time to go through our books for the year and name the top 10! Remember, these are books that were released in 2021. While technically The Cousins released in December 2020, it was our January 2021 book club pick and Goodreads included in its 2021 reader’s choice awards.

As one of our first reads of 2021, The Cousins did not disappoint. Karen McManus has become one of our automatic buy authors since her mysteries always keep us on the edge of our seats. Everyone in out book club enjoyed McManus’s writing style, character development and twisty plot. The Cousins follows Aubrey, Jonah and Milly Story as they meet their grandmother for the first time on a mysterious island off the coast of Massachusetts. If you like complex family dynamics and dark plot twists, this book is for you.
