Lou’s mother, Morgane, is still trying to kill her, and Reid is struggling to reconcile his newfound witch powers with his religious chasseur upbringing. The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau is an underrated YA series, and is basically a more intellectual version of The Hunger Games. Cia and three other students in her region get chosen to compete for spots at University. In this dystopian future United States, a massive world war left most of the world in shambles. Only the brightest can help bring back the country.
Cia believes that if she doesn’t pass her tests, then she’ll go back to her normal life. However, once students start disappearing, she realizes the price for failure is a lot higher than she ever imagined.

We’ve raved about this book since we read it for our monthly book club. For more info, check out our full review here. Serpent and Dove has it all: romance, action, magic, and witty banter. Lou is a witch who has fled her coven, forced to become a thief to survive. After a run in with a witch hunter named Reid, Lou’s life changes forever. As the two grow closer, she has to deal with the demons from her past before they ruin her relationship.
