Over a year after reading The Inheritance Games and The Hawthorne Legacy, we finally finished this amazing trilogy. The Final Gambit was one of our most anticipated books of 2022 and we’re happy to say it lived up to our high expectations.

Avery Kylie Grams is only weeks away from being the richest teenager in the world when she gets control of $46.2 billion. However, the game Tobias Hawthorne left isn’t over…not even close. When Jameson and Grayson return for Avery’s 18th birthday celebration, she expects they’ll be leaving shortly after. But an unexpected arrival changes everything for Avery and the Hawthorne brothers.

Our Favorite YA Books of 2021

It’s almost the end of the year, which means it’s time to go through our books for the year and name the top 10! Remember, these are books that were released in 2021. While technically The Cousins released in December 2020, it was our January 2021 book club pick and Goodreads included in its 2021 reader’s choice awards.

1. The Cousins by Karen McManus

As one of our first reads of 2021, The Cousins did not disappoint. Karen McManus has become one of our automatic buy authors since her mysteries always keep us on the edge of our seats. Everyone in out book club enjoyed McManus’s writing style, character development and twisty plot. The Cousins follows Aubrey, Jonah and Milly Story as they meet their grandmother for the first time on a mysterious island off the coast of Massachusetts. If you like complex family dynamics and dark plot twists, this book is for you.

Our entire book club loved The Inheritance Games for our August pick, so we all agreed to continue with the series in September! None of us could wait to see what happens to Avery Grambs in book 2. First, there’s the mysterious puzzle left by Tobias Hawthorne. Second, there’s the love triangle with Avery, Jameson and Grayson. The Inheritance Games was released on September 1, 2020. The paperback came out in July 2021.

Why did we pick this book?

We’ve been so excited to read The Inheritance Games since last year. It’s pitched a YA version of the movie Knives Out and we love a good mystery. Also, we really enjoyed The Naturals series by Barnes and can’t wait to see if her latest series lives up to the hype. We’re reading book 1 just in time. Christy read Killing November and has been trying to get me to pull the trigger for months. Well, friends, January was the month I finally succumbed to the peer pressure. Here’s our full review of the book. I freaking LOVED it— the romance, the plot, the characters. EVERYTHING! The hype was real and I cannot wait to read book 2, which leads me to my next purchase…
